The Seals of the City of Memphis and Shelby County
Yesterday, in a joint session of the Memphis City Council and the Shelby County Commission, the Memphis/Shelby County Metro Charter Commission (yes, I know it’s getting confusing) introduced to the two bodies the broad strokes of a new Metro charter that will be voted on in the November election.

Currently, there are three public meetings scheduled to discuss the proposed charter. They are:
July 8 — Memphis Botanic Garden.July 15 — Southwind High School, 7900 East Shelby Drive.
July 22 — Ed Rice Community Center, 2907 N. Watkins Street.

The final draft of the proposed Charter will be approved on August 9th, and the actual proposed charter will be submitted to the Election commission for inclusion in the November 2nd ballot on August 10.
I’ve been a little out of the loop on this, with my school schedule and all, but what I was able to see yesterday looked promising. I hope to be able to watch the entire presentation this weekend and report back with my impressions.
